Imphal, October 05:
The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) has clamped indefinite ban on function of Imphal Intermediate College and Ashem Arunkumar Institute of Science & Technology accusing authorities of the twin institutions of compromising students interest.
A press release of the student body contended that the two institutions affiliated to CHSEM had not only defied ban on enrolment of candidates who had passed from NIOS system of education but hoodwinked a total of 175 students.
Elaborating on accusations, Desam informed of the said students being accommodated in the institutions on ground that the Intermediate College and the Ashem Arunkumar institute had been granted affiliation to the CBSE whi-ch later turned out to be false.
Having misinformed the admitted students authorities of the two institutes seeking temporary solution approached Lakhipur Junior Science College, Fulartol existent under Assam higher Secondary Education Council in order to enable the students appear in the examinations conducted in April this year, it explained.
Desam further asserted that despite the examination results being already announced the same for the 175 students from Manipur were put on hold reasons for which neither authorities of the Imphal Intermediate College nor the Ashem Arunkumar institute could explain.
None of the authorities would also take responsibilities to address the perilous situation faced by the 175 candidates, charged the student body while adding that opportunities provided to the institutions authorities to clarify on the matter were not complied with.
Principal (Gulap Singh) of Earl Higher Secondary School, Lakhipur where the 175 students appeared for the exams is a dubious character who was earlier placed under suspension by the Assam Government following a rocky assembly session over the principals involvement in a case, added Desam.
Taking into account all the undeniable facts Desam had been compelled to clamp the ban, it said while asking the institutions authorities to reimburse fee collected from the students as well as to hand back relevant documents.
Desam will take responsibility to get admission in other institutions those students who had passed from the Manipur Board for which students are informed to contact office of the student body.
