A one day convention organized by DESAM to deliberate on the present crisis of the elementary text books prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur for classes I to V was held at GM Hall today.
Ex Minister RV Minthing, ATSUM secretary media cell Joseph H Hmar and DESAM president L Romesh Meetei attended the function as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Addressing the function, Ex Minister RV Minthing observed that it would be a great blunder on the part of the authorities concerned to prescribe error filled text books to the young students who are the future pillars of the nation.
He also appealed to the State Govt to take up necessary measures immediately in the interest of the student community.
All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) Secretary Media Cell, Joseph H Hmar who also spoke at the function said that ATSUM is still sticking to its guns of not allowing the common syllabus texts book prescribed by the BSEM to be taught in the schools located in the hill dists of the State.
DESAM president L Romesh stated that the BSEM which is soley responsible for publishing the error filled common text books should admit its blunder to the people as well as the students and take up necessary measures for rectifying the errors.
He also added that DESAM volunteers will do everything within its means to solve the problem within a short period in the interest of the students.
Intellectuals, teachers, guardians, leaders of student organizations also participated at the one day convention.
