For implementation of the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (NREGS) being taken up by the Government of India for development of rural areas of the country, job cards under the scheme have been distributed among the villagers of Chakpikarong sub-division in Chandel district today.
After successful implementation of the scheme which was launched in 2006 at Tamenglong district during the first phase, Chandel and Churachandpur Districts are brought under the ambit of the second phase of implementation of the scheme for which the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had launched it formally in early parts of this year.
In continuation, the MLA of Chandel A/C Thang kholun Haokip distributed job cards to villagers of 15 villages under Chakpikarong subdivision of Chandel district today.
The 15 villages are Chakpikarong village, Charongching village and Khunpa village under cluster-I, Langching village, Tompokpi village and Singtam village under cluster-II, Khundam Village, Saran Tampak village, Selkui village, Wangpi Village, Tuinou village and Selluk village under cluster-III and K Bethel, Sajik Tampak and Heikulhill under cluster-IV.
The job cards were handed over to the representatives of the respective village authorities.
Speaking at the occasion of distributing job cards in the function held at Khupi village of Chakpikarong, Thangkholun Haokip said that the scheme has been specially launched by the Government of India for development of the rural areas as a country cannot be considered fully developed until upliftment of its rural areas.
Stating that success of the scheme lies in the hands of the beneficiaries, Thangkholun appealed to the people for co-operation.
He also appealed to the Government officials concerned for discharging their duties sincerely not just for implementation of this scheme alone but also for other schemes and developmental programmes of the Government.
On development of roads and bridges in Chakpikarong sub-division, the MLA informed that the works for development of the inter-village road connecting Sugnu and Chakpikarong and the major district road from Sugnu to Chandel district headquarters as well as for construction of the bridge over Chakpi river have been sanctioned and necessary measures for commencement of the work would be taken up soon.
The MLA further assured that steps would be taken up for posting necessary staff at the office of SDO which has been constructed newly and upgrade Chakpikarong Government High School and Primary Health Centre.
Chiefs of various villages under the Chakpikarong sub-division, social activists and representatives of student organisations were present at the occasion.
