Imphal, Aug 28:
Further intensifying its 76 days old agitation, 25 members of the All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers Association have launched an indefinite fast unto death hunger strike from today at Keishampat.
The 25 hunger strikers comprising of five teachers each from Standard College, Kakching Khunou College, Mayai Lambi College, Thambal Marik College and Liberal College commenced the hunger strike consequent upon the failure of the State Government to give any positive response to its 76 days old agitation.
On the other hand, a truck and a bus were damaged today near Mayai Lambi College for defying the road blockade imposed by the All Manipur Government Aided College Students' Union along Mayai Lambi demanding regular classes to the aided students who have been denied regular classes for more than two months following the cease work stir undertaken by the aided teachers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) concerned with the education and career of aided college students has been agitating against the Government to ensure regular classes to the aided college students.
Peeved with the irresponsible attitude of the Government, MSF has confiscated and consigned to flames a large number of files belonging to State offices.
