Food safety awareness programme held

A two-day food safety and quality awareness programme organised by Directorate of Health Services under the aegis of Ministry of Food Processing Industry and Quality Council of India has kick started at Hotel Classic today.
Health Minister L Jayantakumar, CEO of Quality Council of India, B Venkataraman and Health Services Director Dr S Ibomcha were the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the opening function respectively.
Speaking in the function L Jayantakumar said, with science and technology add new innovations and inventions everyday, advancement is vivid in every aspect with faster pace.
On the otherhand, he added, challenges to human lives also increase with every human advancement.
At this juncture, the Minister observed, it is must to overcome these challenges by having good and healthy food.
Maintaining that different Act and regulations have been passed on food safety from time to time, L Jayantakumar said that such legislations are not implemented properly.
The Minister also called on the gathering to be responsible in making food stuff and items safe to eat.
B Venkataraman while speaking in the function said that the programme was being organised as a part of series of such programmes to be held at different locations all over the country with an aim to impart knowledge on food safety to common people.
Dr S Ibomcha in his speech said that people in the State must take extra care in buying packed food items as the State is flooded with the items which are inscribed in foreign language.
