MR man killed, house torched

Imphal, September 25 2011:
A Rifleman of the 5th Bn Manipur Rifles succumbed to injuries following a brawl in a liquor joint.
The incident took place at Wangoi Kabui Khul under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district at about 9 pm of September 23 .
The deceased has been identified as one Thounaojam Herojit (27) s/o Th Rajen of Wangoi Longjam Leikai.
Fatal wounds made by sharp objects were observed on his head and mouth.
Five individuals who were reportedly involved in the brawl have been pulled up by police.
They have been identified as Wairokpam Prasanta s/o W Pishakmacha of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, Wahengbam Torbin s/o late W Roben of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai, Potshangbam Boboi s/o P Mani of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, Wahengbam Boinao s/o W Jane of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai and Wahengbam Rosni s/o W Roso of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai.
On hearing the news of Herojit's death, a large crowd assembled at the locality and ransacked the house of Prasanta and burnt many household articles.
Later police arrived at the scene and controlled the mob after firing some tear gas shells and a few round of shots.
However, before police arrived at the scene, household articles worth around Rs 10 lakhs were already vandalised by the mob.
According to Herojit's mother Tombi, Prasanta was staying at home after taking leave due to some illness.
He went out from home in the evening of September 23.At about 9 pm, someone informed through mobile phone that Herojit had been taken to Wangoi CHC after a brawl with some other people.
When family members reached Wangoi CHC, Herojit was found with his head and mouth stitched.
Herojit was brought home after he was discharged.
However, as the condition of Herojit deteriorated, arrangements were being made to take him to Imphal but he succumbed to the injuries at about 2 am today.
In connection with the murder of Herojit, a protest demonstration was held today at Wangoi Bazar community hall after which a JAC was constituted.
The JAC is set to urge the Government to book all the culprits and also to give a suitable Govt job to the next of kin of the deceased.
