On the charge of setting ablaze an auto-rickshaw, during the 120 hours general strike called by DESAM (later shortened to 72 hours), two more activists of DESAM have been detained under National Security Act.
Interestingly, the 120 hours general strike called by DESAM was against the detention of its five activists under NSA in connection with the murder of MU Proctor Prof Islamuddin.
The general strike, which started from midnight of July 15 and later shortened to 72 hours, was called demanding release of the five student activists.
Two DESAM activists were arrested by Patsoi Police from RIMS quarters along with their motorcycle (Bajaj Pulsar) on July 17 for their alleged involvement in torching a diesel auto-rickshaw at about 5 pm of the same day.
The arrested student activists have been identified as DESAM social welfare secretary Aheibam Anand (25) s/o Amubi of Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai and finance secretary Telem Dhillon (25) s/o late Dhananjoy of Jiribam Bidyanagar but staying at Uripok.
They have been put in police custody with due permission of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal since July 18 till today.
They were produced before the court of CJM Imphal today.
The court remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days.
They are being charged under IPC Section 147/148/435/188 and Section 7 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
Moreover, with the approval of the District Magistrate Imphal West, National Security Act has been slapped against
them.
