Imphal, November 23 2010:
Alleging that his son Okram Subash died because of negligence of the doctors in RIMS, MLA O Joy has demanded an inquiry into the matter.
Medical Superintendent of RIMS issued an order late evening today directing that an inquiry be launched into the death of Okram Subash, according to media advisor of RIMS.
The MLA has also stated that it is shameful on the part of the doctors at Shija Hospital who could not diagnose the ailment of his son while he was undergoing treatment at ICU.
Late Okram Subash was the second son of MLA O Joy.
Subash was admitted to RIMS for treatment on October 25 afternoon.
However, as Oxygen was not administered to the patient in time and the family members felt that the doctors were not treating the patient properly, he was taken to Shija Hospital where he passed away.
Talking to mediapersons at the conference hall of MPP here today, MLA O Joy asserted that despite being the only reputed hospital in North East, RIMS, which is being run by a body with Union Health Minister as the chairman and Chief Minister of Manipur as the vice-chairman, has been witnessing frequent tension between the doctors and the patients' parties as the doctors are negligence.
Joy disclosed a letter has been written to the Director of RIMS demanding an inquiry in public interest over the death of Okram Subash.
Joy informed that Subash was in a coma.
But the doctors claimed that it was Hepatitis and did not administer Oxygen in time.
It is also shameful on the part of the doctors at Shija Hospital, who could not diagnose the ailment of Subash, Joy added.
He further observed that RIMS may have saved the lives of many people.
But many others must have also been died from the negligence of the doctors.
To ensure that such incidents are not repeated and to find out whether it is due to lack equipments or expertise, there is the need to inquiry into such cases, Joy contended.
Sonia, wife of late Subash, who was also present during the press conference recalled that on October 25, her husband had headache and fever.
But not long after, his hands and feet went numb.
So, he was immediately rushed to the casualty ward of RIMS where the attending doctors assured that the condition of the patient was normal and he would be just fine.
However, as the condition of the patient did not improve even after administering a drip, he was admitted to medicine ward of the hospital in the same day.
The doctors have just drawn out some blood for testing when they were told that the Kidney and the liver of the patient have failed, Sonia said, adding that as they were not happy with the conduct of the doctors at RIMS, Subash was taken to Shija Hospital where he breathed his last.
