Biometrics enrolment begins in Ukhrul

For the first time in the census population counting history of the district a new Biometric enrolment was officially launched under National Population Register (NPR) with much fanfare here at Town Hall today.
During the impressive function organised under the aegis of the Sub-Divisional Officer/Charge officer Ukhrul, Rajan Vishal IAS, the Biometric Enrolment was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner/Principal Census Officer Ukhrul, N Ashok Kumar IAS.
While welcoming the NGO, Civil Society leaders, DLOs, Headmen/Chiefs and general public the SDO said that census and biometric enrolment is not just a head count but also ensuring that everyone gets counted so that accurate and well meaning policies and planning can be formulated for development.
The exercise would entail photograph, iris-imaging and finger printing for every person above the age of five years for the purpose of entry in National Population Register (NPR) and subsequently Unique Identity Cards would be issued which will be the conclusive and universally acceptable identity and residence proof.
Exhorting the people to come and participate in the interactive function, Rajan said this mammoth exercise is for the public at large.
Numerous Social Leaders including, President of Tangkhul Shanao Long, President of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), ex-president of TNL, Headman of Teinem Village expressed their views and appealed to the public to come in large number to participate in the Bio-metric enrolment and make the campaign a huge success.
Nagender representing Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore and representatives of In-media, Kolkatta explained the technical aspects of the campaign in grand detail to the gathering.
In today's launching function the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul was the first person to be photographed and enrolled for the Biometrics.
Subsequently the technical teams enrolled many distinguished persons, Headmen, Chairmen and NGO leaders in addition to the general public.
The DC informed the gathering that the technical teams from Bangalore, Kolkata assisted by local people would be visiting every village of the district as per the schedule which would be notified and intimated in advance.
DC Ashokumar appealed the village Headmen, Chiefs, NGO leaders, Civil Society leaders and general public to give full co-operation and assistance in this campaign, saying that getting oneself counted is the right and privilege of an individual.
