A financial outreach camp was held today at Pearsonmun village of Churachandpur district today as part of celebration of platinum jubilee of the Reserved Bank of India.
State power minister, Phunjathang Tonsing who graced the function as chief guest stressed the need of conducting such programme in order to aware the villagers in the remote areas to know the banking system and villagers should also extend to the bank officials in their functioning.
Minister for tourism and IPR who also attended the function as guest of honour observed that banking facilities in the state is very low and drew the attention of the BRI officials in opening for branches of the bank in the state particularly in the remote areas.
Giving his presidential address of the function, executive director of RBI, Guwahati branch, VK Sharma cited the reason behind the organising the programme as to spread awareness on banking in the remote areas of the state.
For the first time in the north eastern region of the country, such type of camp was held in 2009 in Assam, he said adding that today�s camp is the eighth of its kinds.
He also said that RBI is efforting to avail 100 percent banking facilities to villages across the country and targeting to establish 160 model villages.
Pearsonmun village of Churachandpur district has been included among the 160 villages to be translated into model village.
Under the programme, smart cards will be issued to the villagers who would be operated under ICT system of banking and they could transect their money from their homes.
Under the programme 1005 people from Churachandpur district has opened so far and for the first time 10 passbooks were given to the account holders.
On the occasion, 10 kishan credit cards were also distributed; he said appealing the people to extend their full corporation to the RBI is achieving the targeted achievement of the RBI.
The programme was also attended by MLa Manga Vaiphei, principal secretary (finance), AN Jah, RBI regional director Surekha Marandi, IGP of BSF, K Yadav, DC Churachandpur, Jacintha Lazarus, village chief of Pearsonmun village, T Thanchhung.
