Imphal, June 19 2015 :
All Manipur Hills Contract Basis Lecturers' Association (AMHCBLA) has endorsed ATSUM's ongoing stir of shutting down all the Government higher secondary schools located in hill districts.
In a statement, the association said that there are 14 higher secondary schools in the hill districts of the State.
Stating that majority of the teachers of hill districts are contract employees, the association said that 14 higher secondary schools of hill districts have only 14 regular lecturers while 25 higher secondary schools of the valley districts have 434 regular lecturers.
Maintaining that all the top officers of the Education (S) Department including Director, Additional Directors and Joint Director have been appointed as the mentors of different Government higher secondary schools of Imphal areas, the association questioned where the responsible authorities of hill areas have gone.
The Government has been using the contract teachers in different Government activities like Census and election as well apart from their teaching assignments, the statement said and added that however the Government has not extended their service period till date.
They also have not been getting their remuneration since the past six months, the association said.
The contract teachers must be either regularised or terminated immediately to replace them with regular teachers if the State Government really wishes to bring quality education.
The Government must understand that contract engagement is applicable for short term measures only and quality education must be planned through a long term endeavour, the association said.
