Asian Cinema Week 2010, a festival-cum-session of fringe films of Asia continent will open at GM Hall on October 26 .
The week-long festival organised by Mamikon Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will have three sections as Asian New Wave, Asian Shorts and Documentaries, Asian Classics and Retrospection.
The Retrospection section will be dedicated to the films of Japanese filmmaker Kenji Mizoguchi.
Festival Director Ningthouja Lancha while speaking to reporters in a press conference held at Hotel Excellency said that the festival is being organised in order to give an idea to the film fans of Manipur on difference between State films and films of other Asian Nations.
In all, 50 films of different genres will be screened in the one-week festival, Lancha said.
In the feature film section, apart from Manipuri films Nobab and Mami Sami, Assamese film Monjai and Bengali film Ranu will be shown.
Six films of Japanese filmaker Kenji Mizookuchi will take part in the Retrospection section.
Manipuri film, Songs of Masangva will be screened for the first time during the festival in Docu-feature section.
Four Bengali films and one Korean film will also be featured in the same category.
In the Short film section, seven Manipuri films and a film from Assamese film maker Gautam Bora will be screened.
Three other Manipuri films are also taking part in the Non-fiction section.
Eight films including award winning film, Mr India of Haobam Pabankumar are participating in the Documentary section.
Two Assamese directors, one filmaker each from Bengal and Kerala are likely to take part in the film festival.
