An official team of the Manipur State Women Commission led by its chairperson Dr Jamini Devi visited the villages in Jiribam Subdivision to understand the nature of the problems being faced by the women there.
The three-day long inspection tour which concluded today was part of the Khungang Maikei Panglashi (Let's go to the villages) programme of the Commission.
The tour covered Muslim dominated area like Islamabad village, tribal-village Longgreizal, New Alipur, Bengali inhabited area in Barak circle like Makha Basti and Meetei-dominated area like Dibong, Lakhipur, Bidyanagar, Kalinagar, Babupara and Gularthal, etc and public hearings to listen to the problem of the people specially womenfolk were conducted at these places.
The official team of the Commission comprising of two members, member secretary and legal advisor was also accompanied by mediapersons during the entire tour.
The officials of the Commission met Meira Paibis and other tribal leaders and discuss various issues.
On the second day of the tour yesterday, the Commission conducted an awareness programme for the women at Jiribam Chingdong Leikai.
Resource persons who spoke at the occasion dealt with various issues related to women like health, education, development and legal awareness.
Taking cognisance of the complaint raised by the women, the Commission has made the necessary preparation for submitting recommendations to the Government in this regard, Dr Jamini said, while hoping that the women of the sub-division would be able to enjoy more power as an out come of the Jiribam trip.
