As announced earlier, the heavy fuel power project of Leimakhong has become operational to ensure regular power supply during all the matches of the soccer World Cup.
The power plant would generate MW of power to supplement other existing power sources.
Talking to The Sangai Express, AE of sub-division II informed that the heavy fuel project has been pressed into service since the opening day of the World Cup on June 9.About 15 minutes before the beginning of World Cup matches, 11 MW of power generated by the plant is supplied to the Yurembam and Nillakuthi sub-divisions.
He mentioned that these sub-divisions would serve as control units to distribute power to different places.
The four engines of the plant is being operated on rotational basis.
As of now, these engines are being operated with the 72 kl of fuel (furnace oil) from the previous stock, informed the AE.
To ensure uninterrupted operation of the engines during the World Cup, 100 kl of furnace oil would be brought from IOC on loan system and an understanding has been arrived at to this end with the Chief Engineer NE Hydel Investigation and Generation.
Till yesterday, 4 tankers of 12 kl capacity arrived and deposited thr same at the power plant, he mentioned.
