Imphal, July 11 2010: On her sixth death anniversary, Thangjam Manorama killed by troops of 17th Assam Rifles with tell-tale signs of brutal torture on her body and rape, was remembered today.

Offering of floral tributes to the photograph of the victim of the excessive meted out by the security forces marked the occasion held at her birth place at Bamon Leikai in Imphal east.

On this day in 2004, the bullet riddle dead body of the 32-year old woman who was reportedly arrested from her own Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai house last night by 17th Assam Rifles after issuing arrest memo to the family members was found abandon dead near Ngariyan Mapao Maring village with tell-tale signs of brutal torture and rape.

A widespread protest over the killing evoked with the demand of repealing AFSPA, 1958 .

The observance of sixth anniversary of Th Manoram organised by the Thangjam Manorama Memorial Trust was held at Bamon Kampu with renowned social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima as chief guest.

President of the Manorama Charitable Trust Sengoi Luwang presided over the function in which co-coordinators of Apunba Lup, Phunindro Konsam, Sunil Karam, Ayekpam Langdon Leima and president of AMUCO, KT Rehman, president of the Bamon Kampu Women Welfare Association Sairem Landhoni attended as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Thounaojam Iboyaima said that sufferings receiving by the people of the state in the present days are the results of state being dependent.

People need struggle for independent with courage and spirit.

Security forces are killing, torturing people under the shadow of the Act, Iboyiama lamented.

In order to check torturing people, a united strength of the people is a must and womenfolk (Meira Paibis) should take a great role in the united struggle to relief the people from the clutch of atrocities meted out by the security forces, he called for.

Phunindro Konsam reminded the basic rights as a human being is the light to life.

But a question can be raised whether the people of the state are getting the basic rights.

In the name of infested state by insurgents, India government is enforcing the draconian law and violating openly the human rights.

Even though people of the state crying for lifting the Act, state forces are suppressing the same by using violent means like using tear gas and smoke bombs.

They even use bullets in controlling people's uprising.

Speaking on the occasion, president of the Manorama Memorial Trust announced that a park dedicated to the victim of security force will be set up.

The trust started taking up works for the same for locating the same at Yaipharel Maring Khul where the dead body of Manorama was found.
