In a violent attack related to the ongoing economic blockade, suspected blockade supporters attacked a minitruck with a volley of stones sending the vehicle down a gorge at Mao this afternoon.
The driver and helper of the vehicle sustained injuries in the attack.
The mini-truck was bringing milk-powder from Dimapur when it was attacked by suspected blockade supporters about one Km away from Mao towards Imphal at around 3 pm, said a police source.
Injured by the raining stones, the driver also lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a gorge about 30/40 feet deep.
Both the driver and the helper have been admitted in a Mao hospital.
condition of the driver is reported to be critical.
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has been imposing indefinite economic along NH 39 demanding development of the highway's Maram-Senapati section.
Meanwhile, it is reported that 114 loaded trucks which remained stranded at Mao gate due to the economic blockade have left for Imphal today with
security escorts.
