CCpur/Tml, August 28 (NNN):
This year's harvest in the two hill districts of Churachandpur and Tamenglong is going to be very poor thanks to the scanty rainfall.
Reports from the Manipur' south district of Churachandpur said that wet cultivation is going to be doomed as paddy plants are withering due to want of Water.
As per reports recieved from the Agriculture Dept of the district, decline in rainfall this year has been 40 percent compared to the preceding years.
This is to say that the farmers are expecting only 40-50 percent of production as compared to the previous harvest from the 2000 hectare wet cultivation fields of the district.
The Churachandpur district based Famers' Association has also expressed strong resentment at the way the State Government has been treating them.
A single bag of Urea which normally cost around Rs 360 is currently being sold at Rs 500/600 per bag but the State Government has done nothing worth mentioning to alleviate the hardships faced by the farmers in this regard, alleged the Association.
On the other hand, reports from Tamenglong district said paddy plants are drying up for unexplained reasons.
