Aggrieved over the Government's failure to give a positive response to its demands in connection with the assault and robbing of a woman and a man on the night of October 11 by the security guards of Chief Engineer of Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency (MSRRDA), Zeliangrong State Union has called an indefinite bandh along National Highway 53 with effect from midnight of October 26 .
Kachakthuina Rongmei (30) d/o Kukhonpou Rongmei of Gaidimjang under Nungba sub-division of Tamenglong district and Adipou Pamei (39) s/o Janglungpou Pamei of Namkaolung under Nungba sub-division of Tamenglong district were allegedly assaulted and robbed by Manipur Rifles personnel who were posted as security guards of Chief Engineer of MSRRDA P Kipgen at the latter's residential gate on the night of October 11 .
The students' body has demanded termination of the errant Manipur Rifles personnel from service as exemplary action by the Government, suspension of P Kipgen for his failure to discipline his security guards, returned of the robbed items and payment of appropriate compensation to all the victims.
While appealing to all the people to extend full co-operation in ensuring justice to the victims, vice chairman of ZSUM Philip Kamei and State secretary Majabung Gangmei, in a joint statement, categorically stated that any untoward incidents that occur during the course of the bandh should be the sole responsibility of the Government.
