Highlight-ing that the killing of a driver, Sorokhaibam Babu on April 17 substantiated that National Highways in the hill areas are not safe for the motor owners and transporters as well as the general public, the Coordina-ting Body of Trade Unions, Manipur has urged Chief Minister O Ibobi for the setting up of permanent Highway Protection Force at the earliest.
The Coordinating Body also submitted a charter of demands to the Chief Minister today in connection with the killing of Sorokhaibam Babu.
The demands included immediate arrest of the culprits and punishment as per law.
Contending that the driver died while on Govt duty (carrying FCI items), the body demanded payment of Rs 10 lakh as compensation and provide suitable Govt job to a member of the bereaved family.
The body also demanded institution of a high level committee to probe the causes of such incidents.
Further, the body also demanded that educational expenses for the daughter of the deceased driver be arranged for her life by the Government.
