TKS 28th general conference kicks off

The 28th General Conference cum Sports Meet of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong has kick-started here today with the traditional benediction �hokharai�led by the village headman Ng Khathing in the presence of SDO Phungyar Rang Peter MCS, ANSAM president Komou Sha and other dignitaries on the dais.
While the monument of the event, which will last till April 25, was unveiled by Tangkhul Naga Long president Solomon Ningshen as the inaugural function's chief guest short speeches were also delivered by many dignitaries including the leaders of the student body.
The president of TKS in his speech recalled that the student body has been in existence for 79 years as the oldest federating unit of All Naga Students' Association.
Recounting the days of forefathers who he termed were disciplined, hard-working and God-fearing mortals despite being illiterate, the president rued that the Tangkhul youths of today have lacked discipline although they are armed with modern education.
If we don't stand up together today, we will be heading for doom, he cautioned the crowd.

If you are to cooperate, support and pray for us only during election time, the motion of momentum towards building our society stops there itself, he further cautioned.
The president also opined that there is a need to have more encouragers among the tangkhul students community and students or youths of today should stand together in unison to rebuild the union.
"Road is for us to walk and challenge is for us to carry on to build a better nation and it is with this objective in mind that the TKS has today chosen the right theme," the president of ANSAM said in his speech reflecting the event's theme, change through retrospection.
While pointing out that human beings being not perfect do commit mistakes in one way or the other, Komou cautioned the gathering that failure should be overcome by success.
We Nagas look at only the mistakes and ignore the good things done for us and we often fail to come back to ground reality, Komou rued.
On alternate arrangement demanded by Naga civil organisations, the president observed that the Nagas themselves are making hindrances to their cause when even the Govt of India has come to certain understandings.
"Now the call is tough and every Naga should get involved in the movement towards attaining our goal," he suggested.
Rang Peter MCS and other dignitaries also spoke at the inaugural function which was marked by song presentation from Raphei Katamnao Long, special appearance from Shillong Katamnao Long and presentation of memento and other gifts to the dignitaries.
