Zeliangrong Students' Union (ZSU), Tamenglong district has served an ultimatum to the Chief Minister for redressal of the grievances of the people of Tamenglong district with regard to lack adequate facilities in health sector within October 26 with a strong warning of taking up its own course of action/agitation if the Government fails to give a positive response in this connection.
The ultimatum pointed out that the District Hospital has been shut down from today and no patients admitted or treated any more due to grave shortcomings in the health sector.
Very often even a handful of doctors/medical staff posted in Tamenglong district are either transferred without any reason or not attending their duty throughout the year, the ultimatum signed jointly by co-ordinator of the student body Taluiyang Kamei, vice-coordinator Joseph Daimei and co-ordinating secretary Wiramang Newmai said.
Enumerating on present strength of medical staff in the district hospital, the ultimatum said ENT and Ortho doctors have not been replaced after they have been transferred till date while there is no Surgeon, Gynaecologist/attendant, X-ray technician, Blood Bank, Microsopic, Superintendent, Medical Officer and Nursing Matron even as Eye Specialist is urgently required.
Out of the four GNM posted, the ultimatum further pointed out only two are presently attending to their duty and out of eight ANM posted only two of them are rendering their services presently.
The student body further recommended construction of doctors and nurses' quarters.
Rebuttal to LNC statement: Reacting to the statement issued by Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) in connection with the proposed shifting of Tamei DIET Centre to Tamenglong district HQs, ZSU, Tamenglong district has asserted that it is misleading and without facts.
There is no vested interest involved in the matter as mentioned by LNC and we have submitted memorandum to the Minister and officials concerned to save the DIET centre and to draw maximum benefits from it to uplift educational standard of the district, clarified co-ordinating secretary of the student body Wiramang Newme and co-ordinator Tuluiyang Kahmei in a joint statement.
It was only after the learning certain facts that we took up the step to shift the Centre and LNC should also find out these facts from the Department concerned, the joint statement said, while giving explaining the criteria of the recognition given to the Centre by the Government on temporary basis which imply de-recognition of the Centre if the laid down criteria are not fulfilled.
