A sit-in-protest was staged today at Samurou Keithel against repeated firing at the gates of Little Master English Hr Sec School and the private residence of founder secretary of the school Moirangmayum Thoiba by some individuals who identified themselves as cadres of KCP Nongthang group in connection with a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs.
The sit-in protest was participated by a large number of school students, teachers and the people of Samurou.
According to M Thoiba, the individuals who identified themselves as cadres of KCP Nongthang group, handed over a bullet to his family members without any prior intimation while another round was fired in the air on the night of March 29.Even as he was asked to come alone to Kameng with Rs 10 lakhs and the bullet handed over to family members, Thoiba did not comply with the diktats.
After this, he was threatened in the strongest manner by the gun wielding individuals.
On April 11, three rounds were fired at the school followed by another two rounds on April 16, Thoiba disclosed.
The particular group of individuals, while refusing payment on instalment or deputation of another person for direct communication, has also demanded Rs 50,000 using the name of UNLF this time from the president/secretary of van association of the school.
Expressing deep concern, Thoiba clarified that he has no animosity with any group.
Saying that he has been forced to live in hiding, Thoiba conveyed his inability to read the possible motive behind the threat.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, the Mayai Lambi Meira Paibisingi Apunba Lup (MALAMPAL) has appealed to all the genuine UG groups as well as to the State Government to investigate the matter and ensure peace and tranquillity in Samurou area.
Consequent upon the repeated firing, one aged woman, Moirangmayum Ruhini Devi also expired due to extreme shock.
