A petty trader received serious burn injuries on both the hands when he tried to save the goods bought from Moreh when supporters of the AMMSO-sponsored economic blockade intercepted and made a bonfire at Sora Bazar under Kakching Police Station at around 1.30 pm today.
According to information received by the press, two small time traders, including the person whose hands were burnt, came from Moreh carrying their goods in a Tata Sumo.
On hearing about the enforcement of the economic blockade, they brought down their goods at Kakching Lamkhai and loaded them again in an Imphal bound bus coming from Sugnu.
As the bus arrived at Sora Bazar, economic blockade supporters stopped it and pulled down all the goods.
After piling them up at Sora Bazar, the goods were set on fire after pouring petrol.
As the fire started, 32-year old Md Abdul Hasish of Thoubal Moijing Mayai Leikai tried to pull out his belongings and all of a sudden both his hands got drench with petrol and caught fire instantaneously.
Both his hands from fingers upward to shoulders have been burnt seriously in the fire and he is presently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital here.
The monetary value of the his goods burnt in the fire is said to be around Rs 22,000.The other small-trader who brought goods from Moreh is identified as Kim (36) w/o Dev Sharma of Guwahati, but both of them presently staying at Fishlane, Churachandpur.
The monetary value of the goods she brought from Moreh including shoes, blankets, shirts, trousers, etc, is said to be around Rs 65,000.The goods were meant to be transported to Guwahati.
