Maruti Van torched, others damaged by bandh supporters

Imphal, May 08 2011:
A four-wheeler has been torched while several others damaged by suspected bandh supporters in between Lokchao and Kongkham village on the Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway 39 today.
The indefinite bandh call, that came into effect since yesterday, is being enforced along the NH-39 stretch by the Leibi Village Authority in denunciation of the ongoing land demarcation exercise to resolve the dispute between Leibi and Kwatha villages.
According to police reports, unidentified persons swooped down on a Maruti Van at near Lokchao and set it on fire at around 4 pm today.
The charred vehicle bearing registration number MN01W/9433 is informed to have been driven by one Ali Khan (270 of Kwakta and was returning to Imphal from Moreh when the incident took place.
Fifteen cartons of mangoes brought from Moreh were also damaged in the inferno.
Another source said two other four-wheelers were also targeted by suspected bandh supporters at near Thamnapokpi village of the same highway in the morning.
On the otherhand, unidentified miscreants halted vegetable-loaded vehicles at Taothong Lamkhai area and destroyed the load.
