Imphal, July 07 2014:
With a view to send doctors and specialist doctors of such disciplines like medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics etc, to the district hospitals of Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal and Bishnupur, the State Cabinet has given its approval for creation of 79 new medical professionals' posts.
Informing about the Cabinet meeting which started at around 3 pm today with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair, Government spokesman M Okendro said that the Cabinet meeting discussed in detail on sending requisite number of teachers to educational institutions located within Jiribam sub-division.
The State Cabinet deliberated on appointment of teachers from amongst TET passed candidates belonging to Jiribam sub-division itself.
With the Chief Minister very much concerned about shortage of teachers in Jiri-bam schools, the agenda figured prominently at the meeting.
What the State Cabinet discussed today would be translated into action very shortly, Okendro stated.
The requisite teaching staff were sent earlier but they came back because of absence of accommodation facility and language difficulties.
Saying that the requisite number of teachers would be appointed very soon, Education Minister M Okendro appealed to all concerned to lift bandh imposed on the Imphal-Jiribam highway and call off other agitation.
In order to address the problem of retarded pace of MGNREGS works because of giving additional duties to SDOs by Rural Development Department, the Cabinet discussed about creating 41 new posts of BDOs.
The posts of BDOs would be filled up from the existing officers of Government departments.
As such, it would not entail any extra expenditure.
The State Cabinet also agreed to authorise DG, apart from SPs, to monitor VDF.
Engagement, re-engagement and initiation of punitive or disciplinary action against defaulting VDFs would now require permission of the DGP, added Okendro.
Students of Jiribam have been agitating in pursuance of their demand to make up the shortfalls in teaching staff.
