Three underground cadres along with a woman, surrendered to the Assam Rifles recently, were handed over to their respective families today in the presence of village elders, Senior SP, Thoubal district, Clay Khongsai and Colonel Sanjoy Ghosh, commandant of 15 Assam Rifles.
The underground cadres belonging to proscribed PLA were handed over to their families during a ceremony held at the post of 15 Assam Rifles at Khongjom in Thoubal district.
The three UGs had surrendered to 35 Assam Rifles in Tripura on June 8 last and were brought to Manipur by 28 Assam Rifles, according to a statement of the Assam Rifles.
In the ceremony, surrendered Self Style Sergeant Major Deb Barma @ David (29) was handed over to his father Taramohon Deb Barma, and wife Heikrujam Sunanda @ Umarani, daughter of Romeo of Khongjom was handed over to her parent while Self Style Lance Corporal Sanatombi @ Ibotombi (31), son of late Modona of Andro Makha Leikai of Thoubal district was handed over to his elder brothers Chandra and Mohendro.
Surrendered Deb Barma joined the outfit in 1999 while Sanatombi joined in 2006.After getting basic military training at a training centre in Myanmar, they went to Bangladesh.
Later, they intruded into the Indian territory through Tripura and surrendered to the 35 Assam Rifles there.
No weapon was brought when they surrendered.
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant Sanjay Ghosh, it is very important task to allow surrendered people leading a peaceful life.
Assam Rifles will take a major parts in the leading them a normal life.
He also claimed that the event highlighted the changing outlook of youth now want to lay down arms and joint the mainstream.
