Senapati, March 05 2013:
Not-withstanding repeated appeals and representations made by civil organizations to the Department and contractors concerned to maintain quality in NH-2 repairing works, the ongoing highway repair work is seemingly inviting the wrath of two apex bodies of Senapati District.
Expressing dissatisfaction on the alleged sub-standard works in some part of the Senapati to Maram stretch of the highway, the Naga People's Organization (NPO) and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) have questioned the work agency/contractor as to why the works has been stopped since last month.
The two bodies, in a joint statement, stated that they are committed to development of the State's important lifeline for which it has been appealing all concerned organizations/groups including militant groups not to disturb the ongoing works.
Further, it stated that the present repairing works is in the general interest of the District, which is welcomed by everyone.
However, the support and commitment of the people cannot be betrayed and misguided by the concerned Department and contractors with poor quality and delayed works for sole profit making purposes, the statement asserted.
Therefore, the NPO and SDSA demand those concerned to immediately begin the repairing works at the earliest as per the technical rules and maintained utmost sincerity in developing the People's road.
It further warned that any further delay or poor quality maintenance of the NH-2 works will not be compromised and it will not hesitate to react effectively as per the wishes of the people.
The two bodies while affirming its co-operation to the ongoing works, urged the authority concerned to ensure completion of the highway before the onset of the rainy season and with quality.
