Imphal, November 04 2010:
A new system will be introduced in the high school leaving certificate exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education of Manipur (BSEM) from the next academic session.
Orientation programme of the teachers about the new system has started.
Officials of the Board of Secondary Education of Manipur (BSEM) said that under the new system which would start from HSLC Exam 2011, schools will be entrusted to allot upto 20 marks out of full mark 100 as internal assessment for each subject.
Students have to secure the marks from practical and project works.
Practical and project works of students will be compulsory for all subjects and students who get less than 8 marks in any of the subjects will not be allowed to appear in the HSLC exam which would be conducted for 80 marks.
Officials said earlier only practical and project works were conducted for Science and Mathematic subjects only.
But from the next year it will be compulsory for all subjects.
Out of 20 marks, 10 will be for conceptual skill and five each for assignment and formal testing.
Orientation programmes have already started to make aware teachers on the allotment of marks to the students, the officials disclosed.
To avoid schools allotting marks to students without internal assessments, external examiners will be sent to each school to overlook the practical and project works of the students.
The Board of Secondary Education of Manipur (BSEM) has been making efforts to introduce the new system of examination since 2000 .
