Imphal, April 03 2009:
CPI candidate for the Inner seat of the upcoming Lok Sabha election Dr M Nara has challenged all his co-contestants to test how far they could sacrifice themselves for the welfare of the State and its people in this election.
Addressing a series of public meetings held as part of the party's election campaign today, Dr Nara said leader who could sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the State and its people is required for laying the foundation stone of a new Manipur and bring about peace and development in the society.
In an apparent reference to the recent remarks of MPP candidate Th Chaoba that Dr Nara belongs to the Outer seat though contesting for the Inner seat, the CPI candidate pointed out that any Indian citizen has the right to contest in the election from any part of the country.
It is also the responsibility of the Delimitation Commission at the Centre to decide on the adjustment of the existing Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies and no one can simply adjust some Assembly segments of the valley districts which are presently under the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency with the Inner Parliamentary Constituency, Dr Nara added.
Along with the election campaign of the party held at different parts of Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur district, branch unit offices of the party have been also opened at Kwakeithel Konjeng Hajari Leikai in Imphal West, Moirang Mairembam Leikai and Oinam Nongthombam Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district today.
