The Manipur Legislative Forum which was formed to tackle problem of HIV/AIDS in the State today assessed activities of two NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS in Churachandpur district.
The Forum delegation comprising of its secretary I Ibohalbi, vice chairman Thoirii and member Borajao also inspected condition of the Churachandpur District Hospital.
The delegation was accompanied by Project Director of Manipur State AIDS Control Society Dr TR Kom, Co-ordinator of UNAIDS Sunil Huidrom and Joint Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly Ibotombi during the inspection.
Starting from November 22, the Forum has been embarking on a mission to take stock of the various projects being taken up by the NGOs and other Goverment agencies in fighting against the problem of HIV/AIDS in the State as well as to interact with the clients to understand their problems.
As part of this mission, the delegation today visited Churachandpur district to inspect the functioning of the Community Care Centre being run by SALOM, the PPTCT Centre and the ART Centre at the District Hospital and MSF Centre.
Taking advantage of the visit of the delegation of the Legislative Forum, the officials of Community Care Centre urged the delegation for increasing the number of beds in the Centre from its existing 10 along with highlighting the problem of HIV patients who have been co-infected with TB and Hepatitis C.At the Churachandour District Hospital too, the hospital authority communicated to the visiting delegation on the problems related to lack of adequate infrastructures in PPTCT Centre.
