Imphal, October 22:
Taking strong exception to the killing of Wahengbam Shamungou of Takyel Kolom Leikai and grievously injuring Aheibam Oken by some armed persons at Heinoubok under Lamphel police station last night, the people of the locality have decided to boycott all armed organisations in their area.
A public meeting held today at Takyel Kolom Leikai community hall today under the aegis of the JAC Against the Killing and Injuring of Wahengbam Shamungou and Aheibam Oken of Takyel Kolom Leikai resolved that all armed organisations will be boycotted in all the areas under its jurisdictions until the killers come out with a rational explanation for the murder.
In accordance to a resolution of the meeting which said that the corpse will not be claimed until a definite clarification is furnished by the killers, the corpse of Shamungou is still lying at RIMS mortuary.
Other resolutions of the meeting include urging upon the State Government to book and punish the all the accused involved in the murder at the earliest, appeal to all concerned not to repeat such violent activities in the locality, to stage protest sitting for two days and to impose bandh along NH 53 from October 24 in case no explanation is furnished even after the protest sittings.
In protest against the killing, Meira Paibis and womenfolk staged a sit-in-protest today at the bus waiting shed of Takyel Kolom Leikai.
The protesters used placards which read as "We condemn killing Shamungou and injuring Oken", "Give up the custom of trial by gun", "Let's live in peace'', etc.
The protest sitting which began since early morning continued till 5 in the evening.
