Imphal, Jun 20:
As part of the ongoing protest against the proposed Tipaimukh Multi-Purpose Project, the Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACATP) is all set to organise an open discussion in the first week of July.
Speaking to newsmen at the office of the Zeliangrong Union at Kakhulong today, co-convenor of ACATP said that invitations would be extended to the Chief Minister of the State, MLAs and officials of NEEPCO to take part in the open discussion.
Sounding a stern warning, the co-convenor said that if the MoU signed between the State Government and NEEPCO is not scrapped after the open discussion and if the Cabinet does not take a decision to abort the plan, then various forms of agitation including general strike are on the card.
The State Assembly too should pass a resolution not to construct the said dam, he added.
Even if this does not budge the Government and NEEPCO then economic blockade will follow, warned the co-convenor.
Recounting that the State Assembly had passed resolutions to the effect that Tipaimukh Dam will not be built in 1995 and again in 1998, the co-convenor said that the SPF Government too should take a similar resolution.
Urging for the scrapping of the MoU between the State Government and NEEPCO, the co-convenor said that instead of harping on the Tipaimukh Dam, attention should be paid to Loktak Project.
Convenor of ACATP Nanda Kamei said that the ACATP has organised numerous movements across the State against the proposed dam.
A massive public rally was also staged against the dam on June 7 at New Delhi, said Kamei and recalled that a memorandum was also submitted to the Prime Minister.
The agitation will be taken up on a global scale.
