The common text books prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) for classes I to V will be taught in all the Govt recognized schools of the State after rectifying the errors in the textbooks, informed Chief Minister O Ibobi while interacting with members of AMSU, MSF, DESAM and ATSUM at his office today.
Clarifying to a query raised by the CM, BSEM chairman S Nabachandra said that there were no major errors in the common texts books prescribed by the BSEM but only some printing mistakes here and there.
MSF president Ph Nando Luwang who also attended the meeting stated that as the BSEM authorities had admitted their mistakes, the authorities should rectify the errors in the text books and make it available to the students by the first week of March.
He also stated that an orientation programme should also be conducted for all the teachers who would be teaching the new syllabus in the coming academic session as such programmes have not been conducted since 1986.AMSU representatives while holding the SCERT authorities solely responsible for the present impasse over the prescribed common text books said that SCERT Minister Z Mangaibou and Director N Debala should be punished for their negligence.
SCERT Minister Z Mangaibou on the other hand clarified on the charges made by the AMSU representatives during the meeting.
ATSUM representatives who also aired their views during the meeting said that the prescribed common text books will not be taught in the hill dists as the books are not easily available to the students till today.
Reacting against the opinion of the ATSUM representatives, Chief Minister O Ibobi immediately shot back and said that the rectified text books would be taught in all the schools located both in the valley and the hills.
Education Minister Y Mani and Commissioner P Bhorot also supplemented the CM's view and said that any schools not teaching the rectified common text books will be immediately recognized by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, representatives of all the students� organization present in the meeting also pressurized the State Govt as well as the BSEM authorities to organize a discussion session on the issue within a week time to iron out the differences.
