Imphal, October 29:
RIMS Gate Pharmacists' Association has appealed to lift the restrictions imposed on entry of their salesmen inside the campus of the medical institute.
However, the Medical Superintendent of RIMS has ruled out any possibility of relaxing the ban.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Uripok today, Association president Kabrabam Somen maintained that the decision of the RIMS authority to ban entry of medical salesmen inside their campus would act as denial of livelihood to many educated unemployed youths of the State.
The salesmen of the pharmacists have been helping all those who come to RIMS for treatment right from the time of admission to the discharge of the patients from the hospital.
Moreover, the pharmacists have also been providing medicines free of cost to save the lives of the patients of emergency cases, Somen said.
In other words, the pharmacists and their salesmen are not just selling medicines but they are also extending services to the patients, Somen said, adding that this has become a habit and way of life for the pharmacists and their salesmen.
However, he hasten to add that there might have been some instances in which the salesmen betray the trust of the people.
Such salesmen would not be allowed to enter the campus of RIMS in future, he assured.
While hoping that RIMS authority would listen to the pleading, Association president, nevertheless said that in case the RIMS authority bans entry of salesmen permanently, the pharmacists would decide the future course of action to be taken up after a joint meeting.
On the other hand, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Y Mohen has made it clear that there would not be any relaxation on the ban imposed.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, Mohen said 'we are not telling them to stop selling medicines but not to enter the campus'.
Keeping aside the issue of qualification of the salesmen or the certificates of the pharmacists, the fact still remains that what they are doing is to sell medicines, Mohen added.
