Imphal, March 21 2009:
A sum of about Rs 3.45 lakhs have been looted from two drug stores located at BT Road in the heart of Imphal city.
Interestingly, the burglary took place on the intervening night of March 20 and 21 at a time when curfew was in force in addition round the clock presence of securitymen in the area.
The burglars looted cash after breaking down the steel shutters and grills.
They stole Rs 75,000 from International Departmental Store besides looting another Rs 2.50 lakhs from Singh Medical Hall.
Following registration of separate cases, City Police have begun investigation into the incidents, informed a police source.
According to information received by press, the money stolen by the burglars were from the chests kept in retail, wholesale and audit sections of the two stores.
The burglary was realised when the chowkidar of Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade informed the proprietors of the two stores about it at about 3.30 am today.
No arrest has been made in connection with the burglary so far, conveyed the police source.
