Imphal, April 19 2011:
The All Zeliangrong Students' Union has conveyed gratitude to the general public, civil organisations and student bodies and all those who contributed in making the 48 hours bandh a success in all Zeliangrong areas of Manipur.
A press release issued by the AZSU claimed that all the alleged false propaganda of 11 AR and security forces to cover up their past misdeeds and high handedness was vindicated by the massive support of the public to the bandh.
It further appealed to the general public for support until and unless their charter of demands are fulfilled, and as and when bandh or agitation is launched in any issue of public interest by this organisation.
Contrary to the AR claim that all offices, institutions, vehicles were running as usual, all the offices and institutions remained shut and there was no vehicular movement, it contended.
In order to cover up his high handedness and fear of negative remarks in his service record, Col Chonkar and the 11 AR have reportedly blamed NSCN/GPRN for instigating the 48 hour total bandh, but there was not an iota of truth in his allegation, the student body clarified.
Vehicular movement along National Highway-53 remained crippled for the second consecutive day on account of the 48-hour total bandh called by AZSU (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) in Zeliangrong areas of Manipur, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the course of the bandh so far.
