Discovering movements of UG cadres with warlike stores, troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) established multiple ambushes and mobile check post along NH-39 and Old Burma Road near Saivom village yesterday, PRO Assam Rifles informed in a statement.
According to the statement, at about 5.30 pm, a Maruti van bearing registration no.MN-01W-4277 followed by Hyundai Getz (registration no.MN-01K-9235 was coming from Moreh to Imphal.
The troops detained both the vehicles and carried out search and spot interrogation of the occupants.
The occupants were identified as army no.477 self styled C-in-C of KLA Brig JK Kuki alias Stephen (40) s/o Tjhanglhun of Churachandpur; army no.1453 S/S town commander, CCpur of KLA Sgt Thangmang (32); S/S L/Cpl Paocha alias Mani (25) s/o Lunkam of Jangnophai, CCpur; Lhingboi Toutang (40) w/o S/S Brig JK Kuki and Lhigboi Haokip (30) w/o SS Sgt Thoungmang.
On sustained interrogation, the individuals confessed themselves to be active cadres of various SoO groups and actively involved in gun running/smuggling activities with active support from various valley based insurgent groups, the PRO said.
Detailed search of the vehicles also resulted in recoveries of seven AK-57 Rifles, two M-16 Rifles, one 9 mm pistol, eight magazines of AK-56, one magazine of 9 mm, two magazines of M-16, 412 rounds of 7.62 mm, nine rounds of 9 mm, one telescopic sight, two muzzle flash hider and four pairs of combat dresses.

All of them were arrested and handed over to Imphal West Police Station along with the recovered items and the vehicles, the PRO informed.
In yet another incident, the PRO said, troops of 42 Assam Rifles launched operation in general area of Bijoypur yesterday.
At around 10.30 pm, the troops observed some suspicious movement and on being challenged, the UG suspect started to flee but the troops overpowered him.
On spot questioning the suspect, he was found to be an active cadre of PREPAK having received training in July 2005 at the training camp of the outfit at Mintha for 45 days, the PRO said and identified the apprehendee as army no.20582 (training batch no.20, Str-20) S/S L/Cpl Menobi alias Lamtakpa (22) s/o Salvom Mani Singh of Wabagai Tesai, Thoubal.
The apprehendee has been handed over to Kakching police station today, the PRO informed.
