Imphal, March 16:
Over 200 engineers working in the four Engineering Departments of the Government namely Power, PHED, PWD and IFCD, have jointly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister threatening to resign from their respective posts if the Government cannot ensure their security and the MLAs and Minister continue to put pressure for signing bills/cheques at their whims.
The aggrieved Engineers are also set to stage a rally to highlight their plights at Imphal tomorrow.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source informed that the memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister last evening during a joint meeting.
Chief Secretary, police and other officials concerned were also present during the meeting.
Presenting their case, the aggrieved Engineers from the four Engineering Departments made it clear to the Chief Minister that their lives are
not at all secure even at Imphal thereby hampering their smooth discharge of duties with frequent incident of abductions and intimidation from underground organisations.
Highlighting the failure of the State Government, the Engineers maintained that such a situation can be never be a possibility during President's Rule.
Threatening to go in for mass resignations, the Engineers have also put forward the condition that no MLA or Minister should exert undue pressure on them for signing any bill/cheque for the contract works.
It may be noted here that one SE of the Power Department was abducted by unidentified armed persons while coming to office yesterday.
