Imphal, May 14 2011:
The second annual Orphan's Day celebration of Agape Christian English School was held today at the Kangpokpi Campus of the institute where a prayer session invoking blessing of the almighty for a better future of the students was the highlight.
The blessing prayer was conducted by Rev KS Seiboi.
Orphan students along with their more fortunate school-mates also presented various cultural items as a part of the celebration which was held with Khoken village chief Paotong Doungel as the chief guest and IGP (Retd) N Kipgen as the functional president.
Speaking on the occasion, N Kipgen called upon all concerned to establish orphanage centres with the stated objective of providing solace to the parent-less children.
Highlighting that there are many orphanage centres in manipur with individuals running such an institution mostly interested in utilising funds donated from various sources as personal wealth, he cautioned that diluting sanctity of orphanage centres would have serious repercussion and negative impact on future of the parentless children.
The retired IPS officer also posed as to why the Social Welfare Department could not chalk out a mechanism to ensure that funds meant for welfare of the orphans bring benefit to the deprived section (orphans) of the society.
He also reminded that present-day inmates of orphan centres emerging as leaders in the future could not be ruled out and expressed hope that authorities of such centres take all possible steps in guiding these children.
