The delegation of the all political parties from Manipur led by Chief Minister O Ibobi which reached Delhi yesterday called on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today to exert pressure for maintaining status quo and exclude Manipur from the purview of the delimitation process being carried out by the Delimitation Commission of India, MPP Legislature Party leader O Joy has informed.
The delegation met the Union Home Minister at around 11.30 am today and submitted a memorandum in this regard, O Joy said, adding that resolution of the State Assembly against carrying out the delimitation process based on the controversial Census report of 2001 had also been communicated to the Union Minister.
During the course of the meeting, the Union Home Minister expressed that the issue of delimitation has caused a serious crisis in the country.
So the Cabinet Sub-Committee would soon be deciding whether the status quo of the existing Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies should be maintained or an amendment of the Constitution brought about, Joy said.
He further informed that the delegation of the all political parties from Manipur also met the leaders of the Samajwadi Party to put up their case and seek support in this connection.
The leaders also gave their assurance for doing the needful from their part in this regard, Joy added.
According to information received by the press here, the delegation of the all political parties from Manipur is trying to get appointment with Prime Minister, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and leaders of CPI and CPI (M).
