At the time, when most of the villagers were away working for NREGS, 50 year old Tongbram Mani of the locality slipped and fell into a pond as tried to fetch water.
Observing this, 11 year old Chaoba, though mentally retarded, immediately informed the elders of the locality thereby saving the man from drowning.
Chaoba who could not speak normally, used hand signs and gestures to convey her message.
Chaoba first informed about Mani's mishap to her grand-mother who responded saying, "Mani is only taking bath", conveyed Ningthoujam Ibomcha, Chaoba's father.
Learning that her grand-mother could not perceive her message, Chaoba ran to Mani's wife Bina and informed about the accident.
After this, Mani's brother Ibomcha hurried to the pond and rescued his elder brother.
Saying that the United Youth Voluntary Council, Community Based Rehabilitation of Disability is looking after the education of the school, secretary of the NGO K Maharani said that relevant authorities will be approached so that Chaoba is conferred a bravery award.
