Setting the record straight and in response to the development after the path breaking heart surgery on November 29, the Catholic Medical Centre has today clarified that Dr Rajat Sharma, MD DM from Fortis Hospitals Chandigarh and Dr Dhanaraj Chongtham MD DM (Cardiology) accepted an invitation from the CMC to participate in the workshop as part of the Continuing Medical Education Program.
In a statement Director of CMC, Fr Francis Kalapurac-kal, said that procedure was carried out without any financial involvement for the doctors and done purely on charitable ground in the interest of the patient.
"To the best of our knowledge no one in the State has ever performed an angioplasty procedure till date and hence it is a milestone in the history of Interventional Cardiology in the State ," it said.
The Workshop was also intended to gear the newer generation of doctors to exercise their skills with this state of the art technology, explained the Director.
Dr Dhanaraj Chongtham explained the procedure to the media as he was the only local qualified person in the procedure, it added.
After the surgery was reported in the papers, news stories were carried in some section of the press that an explanation call has been served on Dr Dhanaraj.
However on investigation, it has come to light that the doctor is yet to officially receive any explanation call, till the time of filing this report today evening.
