In the aftermath of the ambush launched by the proscribed KYKL at Sorbung under Phungyar police station on October 31 in which three personnel of 1st AR including a Major got killed, three youths sustained injuries in a bomb blast which took place when villagers were clearing bushes under alleged pressure from AR personnel.
According to information received by press, the CO of 1st AR posted at Kamjong summoned chief of Sorbung village on November 1 and insisted to use the villagers in clearing the bushes and undergrowths alongside the road from Kasung village to Phungyar.
Under pressure from the AR, the jungle cutting work was undertaken by 149 villagers in 14 groups yesterday.
At about 3 pm yesterday when the villagers approached the site where the ambush took place, a bomb exploded as one youth was clearing bushes with a broadsword.
In the explosion, three sustained injuries.
The injured boys are identified as M Ngathingpam (16) s/o Jessee, M Mahai (18) s/o Ngathingkhui and S Yuiva (16) s/o Raingang.
All belong to Sorbung village.
M Ngathingpam is in critical condition as he sustained multiple injuries in the throat, abdomen, and limbs.
Both Mahai and Yuiva sustained injuries in the face and limbs.
All three have been brought to RIMS after they were administered first aid at Kamjong medical unit of 1st AR.
Following the explosion, the jungle cutting exercise has been suspended.
One found hung to death: One individual was found hung to death near Nungsangkhong gorge under Sangshak police station of Ukhrul district yesterday.
The body which had started decomposing has been retrieved by police and deposited at RIMS morgue.
