As in other part of the Country, the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization Programme will be held in Manipur in two phases on January 5 and 9.India has been taking up the cudgel of eradicating polio disease from the surface of the country since 1995.Informing this during a press conference, MoS (Ind) for Family Welfare Bijoy Koijam said that this time the programme is targeting to provide oral polio vaccine to over 3,43,352 children upto five years of age.
The programme would be taken up simultaneously in the plain as well as the valley districts.
Any official who are found dereliction of their duties would be strictly dealt with, he said.
For successful completion of the mission, 3361 booths would be operated and 13444 vaccinators, besides 672 supervisors will be put into service, Bijoy informed.
The first phase of the Polio Vaccination Programme will be inaugurated on January 5 during a function at Family Welfare Department, and on the following two days supervisors and vaccinators would be going from door to door and administer oral polio vaccine to the children, the Minister said.
Altogether 352 vehicles would be required for the implementation of the programme.
Out of this, the Department of Family Welfare would provide 30 vehicle's while the other requirement would be requisitioned from the concerned district.
He also expressed happiness that the number of polio cases has come down over the years.
Director of Family Welfare Dr Rabei, who was also present during the press conference disclosed that Centre had already sanctioned Rs 59,69,501 for implementation of Intensified Pulse Polio Programme.
