Imphal, August 27 2012:
Expressing serious concern over ever increasing expenditure in Panchayat Election in the state, Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council Dr M Nara has urged the people of the state especially the candidates to put a cap on their expenditure and spend as little as possible for a better and transparent administration.
Addressing a press meet at Irawat Bhavan here today, Dr Nara said that Manipur is witnessing a trend of increasing feastings and other kinds of gatherings in the name of Panchayat Election.
This is not a good sign.
If the matter is left unchecked, the situation may go out of the control of the government and bring destruction to the society instead of doing any good.
So, it is very much important to check the expenditure involved in Panchayat elections.
Alleging that the prevailing trend is the direct outcome of the huge expenditure involved in the Assembly Election, Dr Nara observed that rural administration would fail totally in the absence of transparency and public oriented governance.
Speaking on the unrest in Assam, Dr Nara pointed out that people in Kokrajhar district of Assam are facing many hardships and uncertainty due to the prevailing crisis in the district.
Apprehensive of possible backlashes, many North East people, who are either working or studying in different cities of India, are running back home.
In order to prevent such incidents in future, the government should discuss the matter seriously and come up with a national policy on the migrant issue.
CPI would also discuss the issue of migrants in its national conference scheduled to be held from September 5 to 7 at New Delhi, he added.
