CM unveils Integrity Pillars

Chief Minister O Ibobi who also holds the portfolio of Art and Culture today unveiled two Cultural Integrity Pillars at Palace Compound here in the presence of MLA E Chand, Art and Culture Commissioner RK Nimai, Art and Culture Director K Sobita and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the Directorate of Art and Culture, the Chief Minister stated that the Cultural Integrity Pillars would be an asset for future generations.
Ibobi assured to extend all possible assistance to the Art and Culture Department to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Manipur.
He also expressed the need to have a separate museum to house objects of Manipuri art and culture in the State.
The two integrity pillars unveiled today signify that different ethnic communities have co-existed in the State since time immemorial, and would provide valuable information about the culture and traditions of the people of Manipur.

Twelve artists who carved out the pillars were also honoured with gifts at the unveiling ceremony.
The two Cultural Integrity Pillars were erected by Art and Culture Department at the cost of over Rs 5 lakhs each.
Each pillar measures about 18 feet in length, three feet in circumference and seven tonnes in weight.
The first pillar erected at the main gate of the Directorate of Art and Culture depicts engraved figurines of man from different ethnic groups and animals belonging to 17th and 18th centuries.
The second pillar erected at the main gate of BOAT displays several designs imprinted on various clothes used during 17th and 18th centuries, conveyed a press release issued by the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
