In support of the movement against the prolonged imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 in Manipur as well as of Irom Chanu Sharmila, who is in her 7th year of fast demanding repeal of the draconian Army Act, representatives of various organisations from India and abroad are set arrive at Imphal to stage a solidarity fast for three days from September 13 to 15.To be held under the banner of 'Solidarity fast in support of people's movement against Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958', the event will be hosted jointly by National Alliance of People's Movement and Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF).
The organisations which will participate in the solidarity fast are National Campaign for People's' Rights to Information, Right to Food Campaign, Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (Jammu & Kashmir), National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights, Committee for Communal Amity (EKTA), Mumbai; People's Union for Human Rights (PUHR), Gene Campaign, INSAF, Lokraj Sangathan, Hind Navjawan Ekta Sabha, All India Catholic Union, All India Progressive Women's Association, All India Students' Association, Forum for Democratic Initiatives, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Non-Resident Indians for a Secular and Harmonious India (NRI-SAHI), People's Development Foundation (Pakistan), Indus Valley Theatre Group (Pakistan), Institute for Peace and Secular Studies (Pakistan), etc.
