Govt okays MoU with UPPK

The State Cabinet has given its approval for the State Government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UPPK which has given up arms and returned to the mainstream.
In this regard, Ministry of Home Affairs, North East in-charge Shambhu Singh would come to the State on May 22 to discuss about the MoU.
The UPPK leaders and ca-dres gave up arms and came over ground on February 5 this year at Moreh through Assam Rifles and police for a peace process with the Government.
A Cabinet meeting presi-ded by Chief Minister O Ibo- bi this afternoon reviewed the peace process and agreed to sign an MoU with the group.
Notably, 45 leaders and cadres of UPPK laid down arms before Assam Rifles and police commandos on February 5 .
To discuss about the MoU with State Government officials, MHA Joint Secretary and North East in-charge Shambhu would come to Imphal.
The Cabinet meeting also sanctioned Agriculture Department to procure and keep 15,000 metric tonnes of urea in buffer stock in view of the approaching paddy cultivation season.
It resolved to acquire land necessary for expansion of roads within Imphal Municipal area in accordance to the Land Acquisition Act, not by way of negotiation as decided earlier.
The Cabinet meeting further consented to giving whatever benefits entitled to late Henkhosei Vaiphei who was working in Police Department.
