Thaninleima and Priyarani selected for Yuva Puraskar award 2010

Two young female artistes from Manipur were selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2010.S Thaninleima in theatre and Ahongshangbam Priyarani Devi in Manipuri folk music were among 33 other young artistes of India selected for this coveted award instituted by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, the apex body of the performing arts in the country.
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, given to the artistes below the age of 40 years which was increased from 35 years this year, was introduced in the year 2006 with the objective of giving national recognition to outstanding young talents in diverse fields of performing arts.
Eight selected artistes in dance were P Kumar (Bharatnatyam), Pallabi (Kathak), Amaljith (Kathakali), Y Srinivasulu (Kuchipudi), A Mudgal (Odissi), Naren Barua (Sattriya), M Natraj (Creative dance) and Y Gangani (Music for dance Tabla for Kathak).
Eight selected artistes in theatre were Meeta Mishra and S Thaninleima for direction; Anita Shabdeesh, Iqbal, D Sharma and Pkaija for Acting; Rajesh KV Allied Theatre Arts; Srikanth Nataranjan for Major Traditions of Theatre Bhagavata of TN.
Nine selected artistes in the field of others Traditional/Folk/Tribal Dance, Music, Theatre and Puppetry were U Natrajan for Folk Dance (TN), AK Nagarkar for Lavani (Maharastra), Ahingshangbam Priyarani Devi for Folk Music (Manipur), Fakira for the Folk Music (Rajasthan), Manzoor Ul Haq for Soofiyana K (J&K), Kanjuram Salaam for the Tribal Dance (Chhattisgarh), Danish Hussain and Md Farukke (Joint Puraskar) for Dastangoi Folk Narrative (UP) and Hanumanthu Rao for Tolu Bommalatta (Puppetry of AP).
Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar carries a purse prize money of Rs 25,000.
