Imphal, May 15 2009:
Naorem Roshan, s/o N Iboton, Dean of Central Agriculture University who was abducted by unidentified armed persons in connection with monetary demand a few days back has been freed safely this morning.
Talking to media persons at his Iroishemba residence, Roshan said that he was set free at about 3.30 this morning at an isolated place known as Lamlongei under Lamsang police station.
At about 8.30 am of May 11, Roshan was abducted by two/three unidentified persons from his house.
Immediately he was blind-folded and put in a vehicle.
After driving for a few hours, he was put in a house.
But the abductors did not disclose their identities nor explain the reason for the abduction.
To a query, Roshan said that he was never intimidated nor assaulted while in captivity.
The captors treated Roshan kindly and he was provided food in time.
However, the blindfold was never removed till he was freed today.
But Roshan could not recollect himself when the blindfold was removed after being freed as it was still dark.
After a few minutes, Roshan realised that the spot was not far from Lamsang Bazar.
From there, he went to his aunt's (mother's sister) house at Lamsang Bazar.
Dr Naorem Iboton acknowledged that his son was released because of the appeals from the public, NGOs and student bodies.
Showing his gratitude to the people, Iboton also showed his respect to the armed persons who released his son safely.
Taking part in the press meet, functionaries of AMSU and DESAM appealed to all concerned not to cause any disturbance to educational institutions.
